Camp Bestival Wins Best New Festival!
Camp Bestival is exceptionally proud to announce that it has won Best New Festival at this year’s Virtual Festival Awards. Voted for by the festival going public, the people whose opinions really count, the award is vindication for the unstinting effort that has gone into staging the brand new event.
Taking timeout from the well-deserved celebrations Rob da Bank said: 'Wow! - we are over the ruddy moon that Camp Bestival scooped Best New Festival at the Virtual Festival Awards - thanks for voting for us and come back next year for an even better fun family festival!'
Created by the award winning team behind Bestival and curated by BBC Radio 1’s Rob da Bank, Camp Bestival was held in the stunningly beautiful grounds of Lulworth Castle on the Jurassic Coast of Dorset on the 18, 19 & 20 July 2008. Inspired by the halcyon days of summers past and the Great British holiday camp, Camp Bestival - served up with a generous helping of Bestival’s special sense of mischief - saw incredible headline sets from Rock ‘n’ Roll legend Chuck Berry, psychedelic troubadours Flaming Lips and sassy songstress Kate Nash.
Commenting on the win James Weld, General Manager of the Lulworth Estate said: We are delighted Camp Bestival has been voted the Best New Festival Award 2008. Lulworth Castle was built for entertainment and it was wonderful to see so many families here enjoying spending time together with a packed but relaxed programme of good music, activities and laughter. We attended the event and all my family, children and adults alike had great fun” He continued, “Josie and Rob Da Bank have delivered a superb, well organised festival. We have enjoyed working with them and look forward to welcoming them back next year to bring more Camp Bestival magic”.
With the emphasis on more family orientated action Camp Bestival provided proper festival fun for all ages with a huge Kids Field packed with tantalising treats, plus there was spoken word, comedy, fancy dress frolics at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and a world-class music bill that ranged from bands in their teens right up to octogenarian rockers.
It’s been another amazing year for the Bestival crew, so here’s to the next one!
