Lulworth Cove is an amazing village and the area around it is some of the most outstanding in Britain, possibly the world. Here is good website with information about the geology of Lulworth cove.
Lulworth Cove has recently been placed into the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline, this will hopefully sustain and preserve the areas outstanding beauty for years to come and also act as a pull to visitors.
Lulworth Cove itself is a beautiful shell shaped cove, formed over millions of years, providing a great place to relax on the beaches, swim in the cove and also dive if you are daring to the many great spots in and out of the cove.
There are also numerous guided boat trips leaving from the cove showing the highlights of the area, including Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door and other great coastal views! Don't forget your camera!
Durdle Door, top image, is a world famous geological wonder, with its massive rock arch, set right on the Jurassic Coast between Swanage and Weymouth, just along the coast path from Lulworth Cove, it is absolutely beautiful.
Durdle Door has a sloping beach for bathing or snorkeling from, caves and exciting rock strata. Only a short walk from Lulworth Cove and makes a nice place to have picnic, sunbathe and go swimming, there was once a dolphin in the bay!
Lulworth has got its very own butterfly! The "Lulworth Skipper" (see left) was discovered near Durdle Door in 1832. Why not have a go at trying to see one on the hills whilst having a walk along the cliffs and countryside?
The famous Fossil Forest, here lies the remains of the growths that formed around tree stumps from about 135 million years ago. Further along the coast there are the ripple marks of an ancient beach.
Visiting the fossils requires a small hike of only a few hundred feet with an elevation gain of about 50 feet. Make sure the Lulworth army range is open to the public during your visit. To access the fossils you need to pass through the army range gates.
There are several places to stay in the village as well as a few places to have a meal although many of the hotels offer restaurant meals in-house.
